In Maurice Tourneur’s 1920 silent drama, Aunt Abigail and her daughter Sally face the loss of their New England farm to the predatory Solon Hammerhead. While Sally loves Joel, she is pressured to marry Hammerhead’s son to clear their debt. Hope arrives via Tim Vail, a former jockey who recognizes the hidden talent of Abigail’s horse, Cold Molasses. In a high-stakes finale, Cold Molasses wins the County Fair race, securing the prize money needed to save their home.
