Lon Chaney and Johnny Arthur feature in Roland West's 1925 American silent horror comedy The Monster, which is based on Crane Wilbur's play. In addition to being a precursor to several horror film subgenres, it is known as an antecedental "old dark house" film. The movie's alternative, uncredited musical score has been aired on the TCM network. The Bat (1926) and its subsequent sound adaptation, The Bat Whispers (1930), were both directed by Roland West.
