The plot centers on Captain Alexei Czerny (Rod La Rocque), a military officer who saves the Czarina from revolutionaries and is rewarded with her romantic attention. He leaves his fiancée, a lady-in-waiting (Pauline Starke), to be with the queen, only to discover she has many other lovers, evidenced by the numerous officers wearing the same "Order of the Star" medal he received. Enraged and disillusioned, Alexei defects and becomes a leader in the ongoing revolution against the monarchy.
