Young Nellie Jarvis, an orphan, witnesses a murder committed by a man and his wife. Years later, she returns to the same rural area and is taken in by the kind but poverty-stricken Hilton family. To help them financially, she seeks employment at a nearby farmhouse, which, unbeknownst to her, is owned by the very same murderous couple she saw as a child. She endures abuse and terrifying experiences while working for them, with biblical themes of love, faith, and forgiveness woven throughout the story. The film builds suspense as the evil couple holds a secret from her past and she eventually falls in love with the Hilton's son, Jimmie.
