Margaret and Victor Holt, brother and sister, dedicate their lives to taking down the criminal group who killed their father. Margaret finally wrangles her way into being the secretary for drug ring leader James (Marco) Morton, while Victor advances to become an attorney in the district attorney's office. Morton devises a scheme to kill her brother by tricking him into falling into a trap after learning Margaret's actual identity. When Margaret finds out about the scheme, she quickly goes to her brother's aid. She tries to save Victor, who is also apparently slain, but in the resulting struggle, she murders Morton. She leaves the scene out of fear of being found guilty of murder. While in hiding, she befriends a reporter named John Howell and a mystery writer named Winthrop Clavering. The truth about the murder is uncovered, and it is found that Victor was not killed but is being held captive by the drug ring. In addition to Margaret and John falling in love, Victor is saved.
