Telangana RTC Strike Ends: 100% Bus Services Resume After Government Concedes to Major Demands
Published: April 25, 2026
Commuters across Telangana woke up to a sigh of relief this morning as the three-day TGSRTC strike was officially called off. Following a marathon seven-hour meeting at the State Secretariat that stretched past midnight on Friday, the state government and the Joint Action Committee (JAC) reached a landmark agreement.
The Breakthrough
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, leading the Group of Ministers, announced that the government has conceded to nearly all 32 demands raised by the workers. The most significant wins for the employees include:
-
11% Pay Hike: An immediate fitment increase to address long-standing wage concerns.
-
Government Merger: An "in-principle" approval for the merger of TGSRTC into the state government, a move that provides workers with the security of being government employees.
-
Restoration of Unions: Reinstatement of trade unions and a commitment to hold recognized union elections shortly.
A Tragic Cost
The strike was marred by the tragic death of a veteran driver, Kola Shankar Goud. In a show of solidarity, the government has announced a comprehensive support package for his family, including ₹15 lakh in financial aid and a permanent housing allotment.
Normalcy Returns to Roads
As of Saturday morning, the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) and Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) are back to full capacity. Managing Director Y. Nagi Reddy confirmed that "100 percent of services are operational," ending three days of chaos where private operators were reportedly fleecing passengers with exorbitant fares.
With the strike over and major structural changes on the horizon for TGSRTC, the focus now shifts to the committee tasked with finalizing the government merger.
