A 15-meter high bronze Soviet soldier is the centrepiece of the composition. With the stock of his rifle, he smashes a border post bearing a chrysanthemum – not only the emblem of Japan’s Imperial House, but also a symbol of the militarism responsible for monstrous crimes. In August-September 1945, Marshal Alexander Vassilevsky commanded Soviet forces from Khabarovsk.
